This salted caramel flavored African red tea (Rooibos) is fragrant and sweet even without containing any sugar. Rooibos is actually not a real tea but an infusion of Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis), a South African plant which, once dried, takes on a reddish color (Rooibos really means red bush). It does not contain caffeine, has a modest tannin content and for these characteristics it has a sweeter taste than black and green tea. All these characteristics, combined with a fair amount of antioxidants, have made it increasingly popular in Europe under the name of "African red tea".
